New York Extracurriculars

The weather during Alternative Spring Break 2003 was not exactly 'spring break weather' (it snowed quite a few inches during the week on top of the deluge the East Coast had gotten the week before our trip!), but the students took advantage of their urban locale and participated in a plethora of cultural and entertainment events that New York City has to offer.

Some of the activities students enjoyed include: attending performances at the Metropolitan Opera and the New York Ballet, visiting the Museum of Modern Art and the New York Historical Society, exploring Greenwich Village and Chinatown, touring the Empire State Building and the Entertainment Weekly office (thanks to alum Marc Vera!), seeing "Urinetown" on Broadway, shopping in SoHo, listening to free Julliard concerts at Lincoln Center, visiting the Poet's House, and of course, savoring a wide variety of delicious cuisine!

Many students also took pleasure in the more "ordinary" parts of being in the Big Apple:

"Taking the subway to work every day, experiencing the masses of people, the noise, the smells, and the proverbial hustle and bustle actually convinced me that this could be the life for me."
"The week reconfirmed my preference for big cities. I realized how much I miss New York!"
