Beryl Johnson initiated her own Alternative Spring Break project at the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University . There she learned about methods and best practices for processing collections at the IJS and assisted the Archivist with processing photographs for the Count Basie Digital Exhibit. She also made digital copies of LP recordings and shadowed the reference librarian.

Beryl said of her ASB experience, “I liked the commitment and dedication of the staff to jazz, the research nature of the facility, the collaborative work environment, and the combination of hands-on archives and reference librarianship experience.”
