The Low Income Networking and Communications (LINC) Project welcomed SI students to their office for ASB and quickly put them to work on a number of research, evaluation and testing projects. During the week, the students gained new skills and made valuable contributions to LINC’s ambitious mission and inspiring work.

As part of LINC’s effort to improve its capacity to offer mapping assistance to its partner organizations, Tracey Hughes investigated mapping and GIS needs of LINC-supported grass roots organizations and explored technologies to meet these needs. LINC will use Tracey’s report to help organizations use free or nearly free tools to generate street maps of member addresses to make door knocking as easy as possible for volunteers and new organizers.

Chris Peterson spent part of his week updating LINC’s Technology Toolkit: an online resources for technology assistance providers who work with small organizations. He also helped test several groupware packages that LINC was proposing for use by a nonprofit organization in Boston .
