Professor Daniel E. Atkins headed a special National Science Foundation Advisory Committee on Cyberinfrastructure that looked into future technological infrastructure needs in the United States. Commonly called the "'Atkins Report," the committee's highly regarded report recommended the NSF spend an additional $1 billion per year developing the nation's cyberinfrastructure to support scientific research.
