Willeke and other architects of his
era, trained in Beaux-Arts educational methods, utilized the postcard
as a useful information resource. Willeke systematically built
a collection of stylistically varied cards and employed them frequently
as notepads on which to record his impressions of specific aspects
of the images. The images tied together with these notes became
effective reminders of the nuances of a key architectural monument.
Willeke dissected images in his post card collection, removing
stylistic motifs and proportional schemes and recomposing them
in ways appropriate to contemporary needs.
