I. Summary.
In this lesson, students will examine buildings with multiple styles.

II. Objectives, Standards, and Prerequisites

  • Students will learn to recognize different style types.

III. Activities/Procedures

Tools and Materials

  • Computers with Internet access
  • Printer
  • Scissors
  • Photographs of buildings
  • Pencil and paper
  • Computers with word processing program

    Bingo:

1.Print out pictures showing architectural styles from the UMarch website.

2. Glue them in place on bingo cards.

3. Play bingo by calling the names of the styles.

IV. Classroom Assessment

Student evaluation should be based upon both process and product. Evaluation should take into account the process of exploring Areas of consideration should include the following:

  • Quality of student involvement in bingo game
  • Ability to recognize different styles visually

V. Extensions and Adaptations

  • As a class, discuss historic preservation vs. the modernization of old buildings.
  • Guest speaker: architect or architectural historian
