parapet

A low wall to protect any place where there is a drop, as at the edge of a roof, balcony, or terrace. A defensive wall. The part of a wall rising above the roof. Parapets may be plain, pierced, crenellated, or otherwise ornamented. A parapet gutter is one behind a parapet wall.
