UMSI Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Strategic Plan and Implementation

An engaged group of 44 UMSI faculty, staff, and students gathered for the second annual DE&I retreat on Thursday, March 15, 2018, using design-centered thinking to discuss ideas and strategies for continuing to implement UMSI’s Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Strategic Plan.

To strengthen UMSI's commitment to increase the diversity of our school and make its environment welcoming to everyone, in 2013 UMSI developed a diversity statement and a series of goals to be worked toward over the next five to seven years.

In coordination with the University’s Strategic Plan for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, we expanded our vision in 2016 with our five year UMSI Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategic Plan. In 2017, we revised our plan to include action items for 2017/2018. Read the revised plan here.

To build greater awareness of the core aspects of the plan we developed an executive summary of the UMSI DEI strategic plan including our 5-year DEI strategic objectives and measures of success and a framework for the implementation cycle supporting the plan. To maintain transparency and accountability, we present the UMSI Year Three (2018-2019) DEI Strategic Plan Progress Report and will share this report with the UMSI community via email.

The University's DEI Strategic Plan Year One Progress Report is available. Note that UMSI's Community College Summer Institute (CCSI) is among a select set of unit based initiatives highlighted in the university report. A compendium document of Unit-Based Strategic Objectives and Action Items provides a summary report on the nearly 2,000 action items that constituted the initial 49 unit plans.
