How to create a campus presence

Opportunities to engage

The most effective strategy for recruiting top talent at the School of Information is to generate awareness of your organization and opportunities by investing in a more creative recruiting approach. We look forward to discussing your needs and helping you to create a strong campus presence leading to recruiting success.

Alternative Spring Break

The School of Information annually hosts an Alternative Spring Break program that matches our very capable students with non-profit, cultural, government, and educational institutions in Chicago, Detroit, New York, and Washington, D.C. The students spend a week working on professional projects for the benefit of your organization.

Archives blitz

An archives blitz is a half day to full day event in which UMSI archives students work with a local repository/archive/library or what-have-you to gain hands-on archival experience. The goal is to offer a real, concrete archival experience for students while simultaneously assisting an organization with a project.

Career Fair and expoSItion

The School of Information has the perfect one-two recruiting combination that will help you identify qualified candidates to meet your organizational needs.

Client-based courses

UMSI requires MSI students to earn practical experience in order to graduate. Organizations have the opportunity to work with high-caliber groups of graduate students to solve complex information problems.

Data Jams

A Data Jam is a 2 to 3 hour event at which School of Information students who are interested in data analysis respond to real-world data sets to solve problems presented in the data and discover further intriguing hidden information for sponsoring companies to inform their business decisions.

Design Jams

A Design Jam is a 2 to 3 hour event at which graduate students from the School of Information, including Health Informatics, who are studying human computer interaction (HCI) respond to real-world, user-centered design problems directly for sponsoring companies.

On-campus recruiting

Employer presentations are a great first step to building your campus presence. It is an opportunity to promote your organization to a group of students who want to learn more about you.

Student organizations

Promote your organization by connecting with student organizations. By connecting with student organizations, you have an awesome opportunity to promote your organization, while identifying and working with top talent.
