2015-16 Outstanding Graduate Student Instructors Announced

A doctoral student and a master’s student have been named as recipients of the School of Information’s annual Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) awards, Assistant Dean of Academic and Student Affairs Judy Lawson has announced.

The UMSI Outstanding Graduate Instructor (GSI) of the Year Award recognizes overall exemplary performance as a GSI, including dedication, enthusiasm, communication and instructional skills. Winners are selected based on nominations and course evaluations.
PhD student Chanda Phelan taught SI 500 in fall 2015 and SI 106 in winter 2016. Comments from nominators included praise for her ability to facilitate conversations and make her students feel comfortable, her helpfulness and enthusiasm.

MSI student Perie Kline (MSI '16)  taught SI 500 in fall 2015 and SI 501 in winter 2016. Kline was praised for her availability and willingness to help, as well as taking the time and effort to get to know her students and develop methods to foster their engagement.
