ExpoSItion 2013 winners announced

Medbuddy won the $1,000 prize for the best overall project presentation at this year’s exposition, the annual UMSI student showcase of research projects and innovative applications, held on Monday, March 25 in the Michigan League Ballroom. Winners were chosen by popular vote of those who attended the exposition.

Students Hongyu Chen, Xin Liu, Tong Gao, An Yang and Xiaoyu Ji designed Medbuddy, complete with an animated character, to serve children with ADD/ADHD. The mobile management system reminds patients to take their medication, rewards positive behaviors and helps create consistent daily routines.

Honorable mention and $200 went to Evolve Outlet. Team members, Sabarish Raghupathy, Karthik Shivaram, Dan Dueweke, Cole Witte, gave the standard wall power outlet a major upgrade. They demonstrated their prototype, which pulls out from the wall to reveal more sockets and a modem. It’s even connected to an extension cord, allowing for additional plug-in options.

“From prospective students to employers, the feedback was the same: innovative, inspiring, professional, and impressive!” said Joanna Kroll, UMSI Director of Career Development. “Congratulations to all of the student exhibitors on a great job!”
