MSI student awarded travel scholarship for CHI 2016

MSI student Jenny Wu was recently awarded the ACM-W scholarship, a $600 award to support her attendance at CHI 2016, which takes place May 7-12 in San Jose, CA. The ACM-W scholarship, which provides complementary conference registration and mentorship during the conference, aims to support women undergraduate and graduate students in Computer Science and related programs to attend research conferences.

This year, Jenny will be presenting at the CHI Student Design Competition, which calls upon student teams to create an Assistive Technology for the CHI 2016 theme of “doing good.”

“I hope our team can present clearly and successfully in the conference,” Jenny said of their project, a wearable device that helps early-stage Alzheimer’s disease patients maintain their autonomy. “I hope we can let everyone understand our design process, and I hope this design can come true one day.”

ACM-W, a committee within the Association for Computing Machinery, supports, celebrates, and advocates internationally for the full engagement of women in all aspects of the computing field.
