Outstanding staff honored
Two staff members at the School of Information were recognized for their outstanding contributions in forwarding the UMSI mission at the August 2 staff meeting.
Katie Dunn, Career Counselor and Internship Coordinator, received the Outstanding Staff Recognition Award. This award is given annually to an individual who excels in work performance, goes above and beyond normal duties, is dependable, works well with internal and external customers and builds collaborative partnerships with other colleagues.
Dunn was cited for taking on extra responsibilities by filling in for a staff member on leave, participating on the UMSI staff meeting planning committee, forming a professional development group across campus with career services professionals, presenting at three professional conferences this year, and making significant contributions to an internship reform plan for the bachelor’s and master’s programs.
John Lockard, Unix and IT Security Administrator, received the Peer-to-Peer Staff award, for which staff nominate fellow staff members. The annual award recognizes a staff member who makes outstanding contributions in service of other staff or to the work environment at UMSI.
The committee cited Lockard for consistently approaching his work with a pleasant, problem-solving, collaborative attitude. He makes a consistent effort to be part of the UMSI community, deliberately serving on committees such as the staff meeting planning committee, and at events that benefit the school. His nominator called him “loyal, steady, reliable, trustworthy, respectful of others… a great employee to have on staff.”
