Heidi Skrzypek and Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Thomas Finholt

UMSI Human Resources Generalist Heidi Skrzypek was selected as the recipient of the University of Michigan Association of Administrative Office Professionals (UM-AAOP) Award of Excellence.

The award recognizes an administrative office professional who embodies the UM-AAOP’s values, skills, and mission, and has made significant contributions in support of established institutional goals. Honorees demonstrate excellence in performance, leadership, and commitment to continuing professional development.

Skrzypek, who has worked at UMSI for 11 years, was honored at a May 7 ceremony at the Kensington Court Hotel in Ann Arbor. She is the first staff member employed outside of the U-M Health System to win the award.

In her current role, Skrzypek provides high-level support for academic human resources; manages the faculty review, promotion, and tenure process; and processes and tracks all lecturer appointments. Skrzypek also helped to develop and continues to provide support for UMSI’s faculty mentorship program. She has worked to introduce technology and efficient procedures to streamline many processes within the school.

She was nominated by UMSI Professor of Information Elizabeth Yakel and Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Thomas Finholt, who said of Skrzypek on the nomination form:

“Heidi's dedication and work ethic exemplify diligence and caring for fellow staff and faculty. Whether working internally or externally, Heidi exhibits a remarkable level of professionalism and is a community builder."
