Michael A. Finney is president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corp., the state of Michigan's lead economic development agency. He is responsible for enacting Governor Rick Snyder's economic development strategy.

In this talk at UMSI, he will speak on "Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Michigan."

Prior to taking the helm at MEDC, Finney served as president and CEO of Ann Arbor SPARK, a public-private partnership whose mission is to advance innovation-based economic development in the greater Ann Arbor region.

Finney also served in executive positions with Greater Rochester Enterprise, Rochester, New York, and Thompson Saginaw. He was also assistant city manager of Saginaw, Michigan.

Finney currently serves on the board of directors for the State Science & Technology Institute and is affiliated with the Washtenaw Community College Foundation, the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, and at the University of Michigan, the Life Sciences Institute, theOffice of Technology Transfer, and the College of Engineering Center for Entrepreneurship National Advisory Councils.

Finney has received numerous awards and recognition including the 2008 Saginaw Valley State University Outstanding Alumnus for the College of Business and Management; named by Crain’s Detroit Business as one of the 2007 Newsmakers of the Year; and 2005 Minett Distinguished Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology,

Finney holds a master's in human resources from Central Michigan University and a bachelor's of business administration from Saginaw Valley State University.
