Since starting the doctoral program in 2019, I have had the opportunity to contribute to a number of research projects under the supervision of Barry Fishman and Stephanie Teasley. I have also had the opportunity to conceptualize and conduct two of my own studies. These projects focused on understanding the use of educational credentials in applicant selection processes where work history is minimal. To date, I have completed studies with college admissions personnel at four-year institutions and hiring managers who hire for entry-level positions. In both instances, I sought to understand the opportunities and challenges of implementing novel digital credentialing tools into the selection process by defining the information needs of those doing the selecting. My goal has been to improve the transition process for low-resource students moving into and through higher education into employment. I have had the opportunity to present my work at both the International Conference of the Learning Sciences and the 1EdTech Digital Credential Summit.
Outside of my research work, I teach courses on user research methods and information theory and have worked as an instructional coach for graduate student instructors at the School of Information. From 2012 to 2015 I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Vlore, Albania. I am open to all opportunities.
