SI SpotlightPatricia Katopol (MSI '99)
While a program associate at the Aspen Institute: "I couldn't do what I do now without the SI degree -- my law degree wouldn't be sufficient. I don't know where else I could have gone that had the openness in the curriculum to tackle both the technology and the policy."

Before SI: Earned her bachelor's at U-M studying political science, English, and history. Earned a law degree at Howard University and worked at computerized litigation support.
At SI: Worked with the Program for Research on the Information Economy, parts of which have now evolved into the interdisciplinary STIET Program. Did an internship researching legislation addressing various forms of electronic media used in state record keeping. Was a member of the first graduating class in the Information Economics, Management and Policy specialization.
After SI: Worked as a program associate for the Communications and Society Program at the Aspen Institute in Washington, D.C., a position created to provide the program with expertise in information technology, telecommunications, and electronic commerce. Went on to earn her Ph.D. in the Information School at the University of Washington in Seattle. Now on faculty at the University of Iowa's School of Library and Information Science.
