I spent my summer 2020 as a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst Intern at Service Express in Grand Rapids, MI. Service Express specializes in aftermarket data center maintenance for server, storage, and networking equipment. As a member of the BI team I created informative reports, and interactive visualizations and dashboards to support decision making, improve company performance, and increase process efficiency. I also helped design and implement geospatial territory analysis, and built a machine learning model that improved the accuracy of a model currently used in production by over 6%.
Service Express’ Core Value is to “work with our employees to help them achieve their personal, professional and financial goals.” This focused approach allowed and encouraged me to participate in continuous improvement activities such as LinkedIn Learning and Coursera courses, as well as to implement personal organization and financial tools under the guidance of experienced managers and mentors.
I wanted a summer experience that would allow me to continue on my academic path while giving me real-world experience and projects I could care about. Service Express fulfilled these things so completely that I agreed to continue my internship until December 2020.
