High-speed history of a very cool school

In the ’90s, this new technology called the internet was taking hold. A group of visionary faculty — engineers, computer scientists, anthropologists and social scientists — realized you can’t understand tech without understanding people. They joined forces to create a new home: the School of Information.

To this day, we’re about that combination: people + information + technology. It’s what makes us useful, and what makes us bold in finding solutions. Especially as other new technologies take hold, poised to change everything (know any?!).

(Technically our history goes back even further, to 1926, to a Department of Library Science at the University of Michigan that kept reinventing itself. No big deal, but we’ve been at this for a century.)
