Dean Finholt elected to iSchools Board of Directors
Thomas A. Finholt, professor and dean of the University of Michigan School of Information (UMSI), has been elected to a two-year term as a Member of the Board of Directors for the iSchools consortium.
The iSchools organization is an international consortium of over 70 information schools and departments around the globe, dedicated to advancing the information field in the 21st century.
“I'm pleased by my election to the iSchools Board of Directors, and I'm grateful for the trust shown in me by my fellow deans,” Finholt said. “The iSchools organization is a critical means for recognizing and promoting the important scholarship, instruction, and public service performed by the more than 70 member institutions around the world.”
Finholt joined UMSI in 1997. His previous UMSI roles include associate dean for research and innovation, senior associate dean for faculty, and senior associate dean for academic affairs. He was appointed UMSI Dean in April 2016. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Swarthmore College and a doctorate in social and decision sciences from Carnegie Mellon University.
“I look forward to representing the University of Michigan and guiding the iSchool organization to help people use information, with technology, to make a better world,” Finholt said.
