Shelby Pitts is changing the way we think about what it means to be human in the age of information.

A first year Master of Science in Information student at the University of Michigan School of Information, Shelby is fascinated by the ethics of artificial intelligence.

An anthropologist at heart, Shelby plans to become a researcher after graduation and wants to use her unique background to ensure that the future of technology is one that supports people, not oppresses them.

At UMSI, Shelby enjoys learning from and collaborating with classmates and friends as well as taking advantage of opportunities to advance her career.

“I’m actually overwhelmed by all the events and opportunities UMSI has to offer,” she says. “There’s so much that comes through email. People are not as hip as they should be about email.”
