Gold: Mini-Stewardship Reports

Silver: MADS Degree Student Engagement
Category: Alumni Relations> Targeted Constituency Engagement
With the goal of engaging its online learners as future alumni and donors, the development and alumni relations office launched an initiative to connect current alumni of the school with incoming Master of Applied Data Science students. Engagement activities included alumni sending welcoming emails, virtual and in-person one-to-one chats and virtual happy hours.
The judges commented:
“Engaging students that are in a virtual master’s program is nearly impossible, and University of Michigan’s MADS student engagement defied these odds with their in-person and virtual events. The program is new as of 2019, and the current outreach engages 20% of the current online student population. Converting engagement into donors through meaningful conversations yields success for this program.”

Bronze: Estate Planning During COVID-19
Category: Fundraising> Fundraising Pivot
The School of Information launched its first estate-planning workshop in 2014 in conjunction with U-M Office of Planned Giving. When the university shifted to remote operations in March of 2020, UMSI decided to hold its own virtual estate planning workshop specifically tailored to its alumni. The project included a mailing to all alumni between 50-85 and two online workshops to which two other on-campus units were invited. Both workshops enjoyed strong attendance and positive feedback.
