Artificial intelligence is the future. As scientists race to advance AI technology and create more sophisticated robots, researchers are questioning the ethical and social implications of these developments.

Meta, Facebook’s part company, recently unveiled an AI model named Cicero. Cicero can trick humans, hold conversations and negotiate plans.

A recent article by the Washington Post discusses the new technology and its dangers.

Kentaro Toyama, an expert on human computer interaction and AI, is cited in the article. Toyama addresses the need for more regulations to help prevent the “super scary” potential of these robots being used for evil.

“AI is like the nuclear power of this age,” Toyama says. “It has tremendous potential both for good and bad, but … I think if we don’t start practicing regulating the bad, all the dystopian AI science fiction will become dystopian science fact.”
