Shiv Bhatia (BSI ’29) 

Information Analysis

Shiv is a BSI  student pursuing a dual degree with Michigan Ross. An international student from Singapore, he chose UMSI to develop technical skills while thinking critically about the origins, ethics and biases of information. Shiv hopes to work at the intersection of finance and technology and participates in several business and cultural organizations. Having lived in five countries and traveled to more than 40, he enjoys exploring new places, making sushi and playing pickleball.

Shoumyta Das (BSI ’29) 

User Experience Design

Shoumyta, who goes by Shrey, is originally from Bangledesh and now lives in Detroit. She came to the University of Michigan sure that she would be pursuing computer science but ended up discovering that UMSI was the right fit for her interests and future plans. Shrey wants to create technology that is accessible, usable and enjoyable for people. She enjoys event planning, junk journaling and traveling.

Julian Liao (BSI ’27)

User Experience Design

Julian chose UMSI to combine his design interests with a human-centered approach to technology. As a student, he has gained global experience through study abroad in Barcelona and a UX internship in Sydney. Julian participates in the squash team, Michigan Consulting and Banking Club, Mary Markley Multicultural Council and Michigan Open UX. Outside the classroom, he is a lifelong New York Knicks fan.

Olivia Lombardo (BSI ’28) 

Information Analysis

Olivia chose UMSI for its interdisciplinary, human-centered approach to transforming data into insights that help organizations make decisions. She participates in the U-M Running Club, Michigan Model Federal Open Market Committee and intramural sports, and she recently studied abroad in Dublin through a UMSI program.

Lance Negrut (BSI ’27)

User Experience Design

A transfer student from Oakland Community College, Lance chose UMSI for its supportive community, interdisciplinary education and opportunities beyond the classroom. Lance serves as president of the School of Information Bachelor’s Association and has participated in research, experiential learning and several design organizations. Outside UMSI, he has been active in the ninja warrior community for a decade.

Maggie Scott (BSI ’28)

Information Analysis

Maggie Scott is a Michigan native, coming from Bloomfield Hills. She knew that pursuing business was her goal, but she also wanted a program that could complement business courses with more technical, hard skills while adding value to society. She likes that UMSI is specifically tailored to translate findings with datasets to stakeholders, making it applicable to any industry. When Maggie is not busy with school, she enjoys skiing and wake surfing in Northern Michigan.

Alexia Zaidi (BSI ’27)

User Experience Design

A transfer and pre-law student, Alexia chose UMSI to explore how people interact with information and technology.  She plans to apply that perspective as an attorney. Alexia participates in several campus organizations and enjoys photography and swimming — she was a Division I swimmer before transferring to U-M. At UMSI, she has participated in study abroad and an internship.
