Student life
The UMSI experience is about more than classes. Here, you’ll find a welcoming community where you can connect with peers, explore your interests and grow as a leader. The Student Life team offers programs and services to foster a positive environment for all students, while helping you make the most of your time here.
Student community
Find your people, make connections and share new experiences.
Meet classmates who share your interests, and build connections you’ll carry with you long after graduation. With more than 30 student organizations, affinity groups and community gatherings, there are plenty of ways to find your people. In your downtime, enjoy the Kenlee Ray and Susan Quackenbush Student Lounge in the Leinweber Building — complete with a kitchen and day-use lockers — or lounge and study in sunny booths at UMSI Central. Stay up to date on community happenings with the UMSI events calendar.
Student leadership
Grow as a leader and shape your UMSI community.
Develop your leadership skills while making a difference for your peers. The Student Life team provides guidance and support to help you succeed as a student leader. Programs like Inclusive Leaders in Information, student leadership retreats and student leadership coaching allow you to gain experience that you can carry with you into your career and communities.
Student well-being
Take care of yourself — body, mind and community.
We’re a community that believes in the importance of play. Prioritize your well-being through UMSI activities like skating at Yost Ice Arena, painting nights, gaming tournaments and the annual UMSI Play Day. Drop-in wellness events give you a chance to recharge and reconnect with classmates, while UMSI and U-M both offer comprehensive resources to support your mental and physical health. Learn more about health and wellness at UMSI.
Student involvement
Explore, connect and build skills outside the classroom.
Engaging with your UMSI and U-M communities — whether through civic engagement, student activism or other on-campus opportunities — allows you to grow your strengths while extending your learning beyond the classroom. The Student Life team can help you identify opportunities that match your interests and goals.
