Internship Panel | Wednesday, November 5th | Noon - 1:00 PM | UMSI Central (777 N University)
As part of UMSI First-Gen Week, the CDO is hosting an internship panel featuring UMSI students who identify as first gen. Students will share about their internship experiences representing a variety of backgrounds and career interests. Topics may include the search process, preparing for interviews, successful internship onboarding, and more. Our goal is to allow for peer sharing that may help inspire students that will soon begin (or currently are) conducting their internship search.
All UMSI students are welcome to attend! Lunch will be provided for students attending in-person. This event will also be streamed live via Zoom at https://umich.zoom.us/j/91497799119. A recording may be available on the CDO Canvas site pending panelist approval.
Please let us know how we can ensure CDO events are inclusive to you. What accommodation or access needs can we help facilitate? Contact [email protected]. If you are unable to attend an event or workshop, we ask that you cancel your RSVP in UMSI CareerLink or email [email protected] at least 24 hours prior to the event.
Lessons from Universal Design: Navigating Unfamiliar Norms | Thursday, November 6th | Noon - 1:30 PM | Leinweber 2510
Whether you are a student, faculty, or staff member, navigating the unspoken academic and social expectations at U-M can be daunting—especially for disabled individuals who are less familiar with the university environment or identify as first-generation college students. This interactive session draws on Universal Design (UD) and disability justice, emphasizing the importance of designing with, rather than for, those who have historically been left out, and highlights the need for intersectional, community-driven support. To learn more, visit this event listing on the UMSI website.
Lunch is provided, so an RSVP is appreciated for helping us with food coordination, but not required.
Community Celebration Dinner | Thursday, November 6th | 5:30 - 7:00 PM | Leinweber Dow Room
First-generation college students are important to the UMSI community. As a way to celebrate our first-gen students, faculty, staff and alumni, we are planning a special celebration dinner for our UMSI first-gen community. Register here to attend.
All events are co-sponsored by UMSI Development and Alumni Relations, Office of Academic and Student Affairs, Office of Organizational Culture and Community, and the Career Development Office.
