Brown: YouTube’s new moderation rules mark a shift from earlier norms

By Noor HindiYouTube quietly shifted its content moderation policy to prioritize “freedom of expression” over removing potentially harmful videos.
University of Michigan School of Information PhD candidate Megan Brown, an expert on online information ecosystems, tells the New York Times that YouTube’s new policies deviate from a time when the company and other social media platforms “decided people could share political speech but they would maintain some decorum.” She fears that YouTube’s new policy “is not a way to achieve that.”
