Graduating Master of Applied Data Science (MADS) students, their loved ones and University of Michigan School of Information (UMSI) faculty and staff filled North Quad Space 2435 for a MADS grads reception.

The MADS program is an entirely online degree program, with students attending classes and earning their degrees from all over the world. This year, about 200 students graduated from the MADS program. The flexible online curriculum is well suited to part- or full-time students, including those with career, family or community responsibilities.

The April 30 graduation reception was the first chance for many MADS grads to connect with peers, faculty and staff in person. Grads also had the chance to explore Ann Arbor during a campus tour hosted by Amy Homkes-Hayes, UMSI associate director of online programs and strategic advisor to the leadership team on online programs and digital content, and Lauren Murphy, senior instructional content specialist.

The reception and campus tour kicked off an exciting weekend, as MADS students also walked in the UMSI graduation ceremony. This graduation marked the first in-person graduation ceremony for MADS graduates, with previous ceremonies hosted online. MADS graduates who weren’t able to attend the graduation ceremony in person were able to watch the ceremony virtually.
