Pal: Misinformation campaign brought India and Pakistan closer to war

During the most recent India-Pakistan conflict, misinformation flooded social media, amplifying tensions and fueling nationalist narratives. 

In an interview for the Guardian, University of Michigan School of Information associate professor Joyojeet Pal, an expert on the role of social media in global politics, says the scale of the misinformation marks a dangerous shift in how digital propaganda can intensify geopolitical hostility. 

“This had the power to push two nuclear armed countries closer to war,” Pal says.
