University of Michigan School of Information alum Uday Krishna got his first job through a campus career fair. Since graduating with his Master of Science in Information degree in 2014, Krishna has worked at AirWatch, Capital One and PayPal.

Now business intelligence & analytics manager at Amazon Web Services, Krishna provides career mentorship to UMSI students through the school’s Alumni Career Connections program.

Krishna recommends that students and graduates trying to get a foot in the door of the tech industry use the Michigan Difference to their advantage.

“Career fairs, alumni and the University of Michigan brand help a lot,” he says. “The university has a lot of resources — leverage those.”

If anything, Krishna says, UMSI graduates should consider a future where they may have a plethora of opportunities to choose from.

Recalling his early career, Krishna says, “Instead of worrying about getting a job or a visa, I should have asked myself if this choice is the best I’m doing with my time. Is this the best company? Is the role best fit for my skills, my interest, my future?”

In his Alumni Snapshot, Krishna talks about the U-M and UMSI resources that continue to serve him in his career and how students and graduates can gain confidence in their job search.
