University of Michigan School of Information associate professor Erin Krupka has been appointed as the associate dean for faculty. She will begin her appointment in July.
UMSI interim dean Elizabeth Yakel made the announcement on Friday, July 21.
Krupka, who joined the faculty at UMSI in 2009, has served as director of the doctoral program from 2019 to 2023, and in January of this year was appointed adjunct administrator in the dean’s office
“Erin has become an integral part of the leadership team, serving as an ex-officio member of the Dean’s Advisory Committee,” Yakel says. “She familiarized herself with various aspects of faculty affairs including the promotion and tenure processes, faculty renewal and appointments, faculty activity reports, dual career issues and other related matters.
“During her tenure as the director of the doctoral program, Erin showcased her meticulous attention to detail and deep understanding of the university as an institution. These qualities will undoubtedly contribute to her success in this new role.”
An experimental behavioral economist, Krupka’s research focuses on motivating individuals to engage in behaviors that benefit organizations and communities, as well as bringing about shifts in values and culture within these contexts. During her time at UMSI, Krupka has secured funding from prestigious institutions such as the National Science Foundation, the Donaghue Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Krupka teaches in the areas of behavioral economics, organizational management and choice architecture. She has been honored with the UMSI's Teaching Award and the Honored Instructor Award from the University of Michigan Housing. She has also been nominated twice for the University of Michigan's Golden Apple Teaching Award.
“I am honored to accept this appointment and look forward to the deeply rewarding work of supporting our faculty in their professional development at UMSI in the coming years,” Krupka says.
