UMSI Go Blue Graduate Scholarship

Did you get the Go Blue Guarantee? Keep going! UMSI Go Blue Graduate Scholarship. Free graduate school tuition for current or previous recipients. Master of Science in Information (MSI), Master of Health Informatics (MHI)

Did you qualify for the Go Blue Guarantee? Keep going!

The UMSI Go Blue Graduate Scholarship helps Michigan residents take the next step in their education by providing full tuition for graduate study at the University of Michigan School of Information to selected students.

This opportunity is open to U-M students and recent graduates who either received or qualified for the Go Blue Guarantee as undergraduates on any U-M campus.

This scholarship represents the evolution of the UMSI Graduate Guarantee, a two-year pilot program launched in 2023. Funding already awarded under that program remains unaffected, while future awards will follow the updated criteria outlined below.

What does it cover?

The UMSI Go Blue Graduate Scholarship provides four semesters of tuition and fees to selected full-time students in the School of Information’s Master of Science in Information (MSI) program or Master of Health Informatics (MHI) program.

How does it work?

You don’t need to submit a separate application for the UMSI Go Blue Graduate Scholarship.

You’ll automatically be considered if:

  1. You are a current student or recent graduate (within one academic year of program start) of the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Dearborn, or Flint).
  2. You received or qualified for the U-M Go Blue Guarantee grant.
  3. You apply to the School of Information’s MSI or MHI program by the Jan. 15 priority deadline.
In the Financial Assistance Information section of your application, be sure to indicate whether you received the Go Blue Guarantee or another need-based, full-tuition grant or scholarship. Not sure? Check your financial aid history in Wolverine Access under the Student Aid section.
  4. You are admitted to either of those UMSI programs.

Notification: If selected for the UMSI Go Blue Graduate Scholarship or another UMSI merit scholarship, you will receive confirmation via email after being admitted to UMSI.

Selection criteria

Scholarships are competitive, with a limited number available each year. Recipients are selected based on:

  • Financial need
  • Merit
  • Alignment with the program’s goals

Decisions are made through a holistic review of your UMSI application materials. We consider the following:

  • Strength of the statement of purpose and personal statement
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Internship, research and/or work experience
  • Academic record
  • Demonstration of leadership and service
  • Indicators of qualities such as creative problem-solving and comfort with ambiguity

Our goal is to find students who are ready to take full advantage of the opportunities at UMSI and make an impact in the information field.
