Research opportunities

At UMSI, undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to engage in research projects with UMSI faculty and doctoral students. Research is an invaluable experience for students, as it fosters a deep understanding of complex information systems, data analytics and human-technology interactions. Engaging in research allows students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems, enhancing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Through collaboration with faculty and peers, students gain exposure to cutting-edge methodologies and innovative technologies, preparing them for diverse career paths in academia, industry and beyond.

Research Experience Development Program

The Research Experience Development Program (REDP) offers an excellent opportunity for students interested in exploring the academic research process and preparing for doctoral studies. Ideal candidates are those eager to gain real research experience while learning about applying to and thriving in a PhD program.

REDP pairs students with experienced UMSI researchers, allowing them to develop crucial research skills while providing valuable assistance to faculty and advanced doctoral students. Through the program, students will engage in diverse research activities, receive close mentorship and explore critical issues in information science.

Beyond research, REDP fosters a vibrant community of scholars through a variety of educational and social activities designed to create connections among participants.

Program development and student awards are supported by the RJ Jain UMSI Research Fund.
