Experimental encyclopedia puts the world at a 5-year-old’s fingertips


A startup fostered at UMSI is developing an audiovisual encyclopedia that will enable young learners to explore their interests without limits.

Johnnie O. Dent Endowed Scholarship supports graduate students and honors a unique legacy


Valeda Dent, PhD (MILS ‘92), established the Johnnie O. Dent Endowed Scholarship Fund in honor of her mother, one of the first African American students to attend UMSI.

2023 UMSI Student Project Exposition award recipients announced


Student projects representing the best of UMSI’s degree programs were awarded. Students also earned awards in categories like diversity, equity and inclusion and community/civic engagement.

UMSI Alternative Spring Break participants contribute to open access mission


Master of Science in Information students Rebecca Barabas and Meghan Berry spent spring break at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Press and the University of South Carolina Press respectively expanding digital access to past publications.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to join UMSI community discussions of Ruha Benjamin’s book “Viral Justice.” All discussions will include recaps or read-togethers.

Parents of twins donate to UMSI, Kinesiology in honor of daughters


Lisa and Mike Burke, parents of Kara and Kelsey Burke, made an endowed scholarship gift to both the School of Kinesiology and the School of Information at the University of Michigan. The Hong Burke Scholarship fund will support U-M students in finishing their education.

Ehrenberg Internship Fund grants more opportunities for UMSI students to pursue internships


Carin and Roger Ehrenberg established the Ehrenberg Internship Fund, which will ensure students have equal opportunity to pursue internships without the burden of financial barriers.
