MSI Accelerated Master's Degree Program

If you are a high-performing undergraduate at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, you have the option to earn a master’s degree from the School of Information on an accelerated timeline.
There are two ways to enter the Accelerated Master’s Degree Program:
- As a Bachelor of Science in Information student: Earn a Master of Science in Information degree by adding one academic year to your studies. Explore the program structure.
- As a U-M undergraduate in another school or college: Earn a Master of Science in Information degree in three academic terms. Explore the program structure.
The Master of Science in Information program teaches advanced technical skills with a human-centered approach, leading to strong career outcomes across industries. The hallmarks of the MSI program — academic rigor, professional preparation and experiential learning — are fully maintained in the AMDP.
We welcome students from all majors. You’ll have four pathways to choose from:
- Big Data Analytics (common undergraduate majors include: economics, political science, mathematics, statistics, data science, anthropology, communication)
- Libraries, Archives and Knowledge Environments in Society (common undergraduate majors include: English, history, international studies, foreign languages, area studies, philosophy, music, film and media, art history)
- User-Centered Agile Development (common undergraduate majors include: computer science, psychology, data science, computer engineering, sociology, education, art, communication)
- User Experience Research and Design (common undergraduate majors include: psychology, neuroscience, art, digital media, sociology, computer science, education, communication)
What are the benefits of an accelerated master’s degree?
There are two main benefits:
- Cost savings: By completing your master’s degree on an accelerated timeline, you’ll save significantly on tuition.
- Earlier career advancement: You can graduate and begin earning the salary associated with a master’s degree sooner.
What are the eligibility requirements?
- You must be on track to complete your undergraduate degree from U-M.
- You must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 at the time of your application.
How do I register for this program?
You will formally register for the AMDP in your senior year at U-M by filling out a brief application. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you will be admitted.
