The School of Information prepares future information professionals to apply practical solutions to real-world problems.
While at UMSI, students have the opportunity to gain experience that will best prepare them for today’s industry demands. Through a variety of programs and opportunities offered by the Engaged Learning Office, students have the opportunity to apply what they are learning in the classroom and to develop stories to share with employers. UMSI students graduate with experience, in addition to theoretical knowledge, that makes them more than competitive candidates for today’s job market.
Students work with a wide variety of clients and partners, from the start-up community in Ann Arbor to social service organizations in Detroit to major cultural institutions, Fortune 500 companies and international aid agencies.

UMSI’s commitment to public service offers students the opportunity to volunteer their time applying their information skills for the betterment of society. Through co-curricular programs and activities, students increase their understanding of the complex social issues of the world and how information can address these challenges.
Work with engaged learning specialists
Our team is made up of engaged learning specialists who come from a wide range of areas of expertise and specialize in creating and managing student engagement programs. Programs are either facilitated independently by staff or in collaboration with faculty to integrate engaged learning as part of the curriculum.
