SI 335: Social Media in Organizations syllabus


In SI 335: Social Media in Organizations, undergraduate students work with clients to evaluate the current state of their social media usage and strategy. Students will provide recommendations about how to strengthen engagement with communities in creative ways through social media. Ideal clients for this course have clear social media goals and have the capacity and resources to implement the students’ recommendations. Please note that creating social media content is outside of the scope for this project.


  • Current status account evaluation of organization’s social media
  • Peer analysis
  • Strategic recommendations and feedback report about what is working well and what can be improved
  • Actionable recommendations for achieving social media goals within the next 12 months.

Client Requirements

  • Level of engagement for course/program
    • 30-60 minute weekly or bi-weekly meetings with student team
    • Regular feedback and communication to student team based on the course schedule
    • Provide analytic reports for at least two social media accounts for analysis
    • Attend final presentation
    • Complete project evaluation
  • Special requirements for the course/program 
    • Must have active presence on at least two social media platforms
