Speaker, Case Study and Mentoring Opportunities

The School of Information seeks individuals interested in engaging with students through mentorship opportunities, speaking about their jobs or careers with students or presenting case studies in classes. These are short term opportunities which provide an opportunity to engage with students while sharing knowledge related to one’s role or field.

UMSI Mentorship Program

UMSI Mentorship Program

Mentorship opportunities are available year-round and allow individuals to mentor students who are participating in project-based opportunities or in internships where a professional mentor is not available within the hosting organization. Other mentoring opportunities include speaking on career panels, completing portfolio reviews, hosting mock interviews and more.
Accepting Mentors: Year-round

Timeline: Flexible and dependent on opportunity selected
Number of mentors needed: Unlimited

Speaking in SI 422: Needs Assessment and Usability Evaluation

Usability Evaluation

In SI 422: Needs Assessment and Usability Evaluation, undergraduate students evaluate and test the user experience of an existing product and develop recommendations to improve the product’s usability. Ideal speakers have a background in user experience evaluation.

Speaking in SI 552: Introduction to Accessibility

Technology and Accessibility

In SI 552: Introduction to Accessibility, graduate students are introduced to the fundamentals of digital accessibility and consider solutions to address challenges around technology and accessibility. Ideal speakers have experience in developing or using accessible technologies.

Speaking in SI 699: Big Data Analytics

Big Data Mastery

In SI 699: Big Data Analytics, graduate students work on problems of data manipulation, analysis and visualization and use enterprise-scale data to improve performance, outcomes or understanding of a problem. Ideal speakers have experience working with industry-level data sets.
